Sponsored in part by Xerox and US Bank, San Diego’s Blue and White Family (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.) held its 4th Annual Blue and White Christmas Dec. 5th at MLK Rec Center off of Skyline Dr. The Blue and White Christmas is an opportunity for the Brothers and Sisters of the Blue and White to give to the young people of our community by inviting them to a wonderful Christmas Party. At this party we presented more than 30 teenagers which were recommended by area agencies such as S.D. County Adoptions, VE Daughters and the Jackie Robinson YMCA with sneakers and socks from Big 5 Stores (Mira Mesa Blvd.). There was also a raffle held throughout the event where gifts donated from Dreams Hair Design (4223 Park Blvd. 619-299-4247) ranging from Gift certificates and charger jerseys to purses and jewelry were given away, there were easily enough items donated that each child walked away myriad of blessings. The event ran from 11 AM – 2 PM and consisted of Ice Breaker games such as human bingo, a Kid’s fair with booths with topics ranging from Self-esteem and Hygiene to HIV/AID’s education. Over lunch we will took the time to talk about our prestigious organizations and talk with the children about the benefits of college. At the end of the day we believe that we not only touched these children’s lives, they touched ours and that’s what made this year’s Blue and White Christmas the best one yet.

The Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and the Sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. are proud to have had this wonderful opportunity to have established this most charitable event and are looking forward to continuing to developing a fruitful relationship with San Diego County Adoptions and the Youth that they serve. Phi Beta Sigma is a historically black fraternity founded in 1914. The fraternity strives toward its founders’ ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service to the community. From its inception, the original Founders, A. Langston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse, and Charles I. Brown, conceived Phi Beta Sigma as a mechanism to deliver services to the general community. Rather than gaining skills to be utilized exclusively for themselves or their families, the founders held a deep conviction they should return their newly acquired skills to the communities from which they had come. This deep conviction is mirrored in the Fraternity’s motto, “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity”.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is a historically black sorority founded in 1920. Founded January 16, 1920, Zeta began as an idea conceived by five coeds at Howard University in Washington D.C.: Arizona Cleaver, Myrtle Tyler, Viola Tyler, Fannie Pettie and Pearl Neal. These five women, also known as our Five Pearls, dared to depart from the traditional coalitions for black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood. It was the ideal of the Founders that the Sorority would reach college women in all parts of the country who were sorority minded and desired to follow the founding principles of the organization. Founder Viola Tyler was oft quoted to say “[In the ideal situation] there is a Zeta in every girl regardless of race, creed, or color, who has high standards and principles, a good scholarly average and an active interest in all things that she undertakes to accomplish.
